TOWN SEPTIC SYSTEM PROJECT:

With Saguache County's $10,000.00 grant to the Town of Moffat to identify septic systems which do not comply with the State of Colorado's waste water laws and research financial assistance to property owners who may need to correct their septic systems, the Town Trustees' work is underway.

The services of Susan Soltysic, a grant writer, were obtained to research grants and loans available to Moffat property owners who may need financial assistance to bring their systems into compliance, and Chris Hardt who is doing the research necessary to locate non-compliant systems.

At the January Town Board Meeting, Susan reported that her financial assistance research is complete. She is currently researching brownsfield grants to clean up the old town dump on the west side of town.  At the December Town Board Meeting she provided a packet of information which will be made available to property owners as needed once Chris' work is complete.

Chris has done a remarkable job of locating non-compliant septic systems since the majority of Moffat residences do not have addresses posted.  He stated that he should have all non-compliant septic systems located before the February Town Board Meeting. He will soon be meeting with Saguache County Land Use for the rest of his research.

This project is long overdue in Moffat.  The process of creating a town water system--a long time town goal--cannot be done until the risk of ground water contamination is removed.  Having a town water system will be beneficial to all property owners and residents in Moffat.

To learn more about the efforts your elected officials are making on the behalf of Moffat residents and property owners, you are invited to attend the monthly Town Board Meeting.
